The 3 Most Common Google Index Issues You Should Know

The purpose of using search engines is to be visible online. But, it’s not always easy with Google Index. Here are the top indexing issues you should know.

You’re most likely to rely on Google if you have a website. Besides the search engine covering 90 percent of the population, it has simple and better results that give users the best experience. But, you wonder why your website pages aren’t getting indexed by Google, which fails the purpose of getting visible online.

Many pages aren’t indexed by Google. In the Google Search Console, Google admitted that sometimes it can’t find your pages or doesn’t understand it correctly (suppose they see it). Several factors contribute to indexing issues, which will be covered in this article. Some of these issues are the lack of high-quality content and internal linking. Maybe you’ve made a mistake or two? We’ll know.

It takes between 4 days to 6 months to get indexed by Google, it may seem a long time, though, but with proper planning, you’ll wake up with good news tomorrow. Don’t keep your head down because there are effective ways to combat Google Index issues – and we can help with that! Learn more about Global Presence’s Google services.

Understanding Google Index

If you want your website to appear on Google’s search engine results page, it must be indexed by Google.

Google index is similar to a library’s index, which has all the information about the books available in the library. But instead of books, Google has websites updated each time a new page is indexed.

You can quickly check if all or one of your websites are indexed by Google. Simply input “site:mywebsite.com.” If you don’t see your pages here, you’ll need to submit indexing requests, which take about four days to 6 months.

You don’t have to wait this long, though. Google Index issues can be resolved with top-notch content management, internal linking, and having a marketing expert who knows the technicalities. Learn more about Global Presence’s Google services.

Top Google indexing issues

1. "Crawled - currently not indexed” error

If your website received this error, Google saw and visited your page but got picky. In simpler terms, Google didn’t index it.

This Google indexing issue lies with your website’s content quality. Make sure that:

  • The quality is valuable, original, and unique from titles, descriptions, and copies.
  • Avoid copying and pasting related content from other websites. Google might flag this as plagiarism, which lowers your chances of getting indexed.
  • In cases wherein you’ll have duplicate content, always use canonical tags.

2. There’s similar content. Duplication?

Duplicated content doesn’t always mean you copied someone else’s work.

Google indexing issues also go from duplicated content because of language variations. Suppose you have the same page on different languages; it ends up being unindexed by Google. Or when you’re an e-commerce platform and use the same product information as your competitors, Google detects the similarities, be mindful!

You can solve this Google index problem by using rel=canonical and 301 redirects. But nothing beats unique and valuable content. If you need help providing compelling content for your audience, this is something our e-commerce management and SEO team can do.

3. “Discovered - currently not indexed” error.

Google may note your website as “Discovered - currently not indexed” because of these two issues:

  • Crawl budget issue
  • Content issue

There might be several URLs in the crawling case if you got the first issue. It will be crawled but at a later time. If you got the second issue, Google, as mentioned above, became picky again. It realizes that your website page isn’t worth checking.

This error is a bit tricky to solve. You’ll need the guidance of Google experts – someone who knows the ins and outs. If you received this error, you should determine whether other pages fall under the same category of having content issues. You should also optimize your budget and focus on low-quality website pages, where Google usually spends its precious time.

How to get your page indexed by Google

You can index new websites or even old and exiting sites by:

1. Add your website page to the sitemap.

Google uses a sitemap to determine which pages on your site are essential and which are not. It may also provide information on how frequently they should be crawled.

Use the URL inspection tool that can be found in Search Console to see if a page is in your sitemap.

2. Include internal and powerful links.

Crawling to your website allows Google to find new content. Adding some internal links to the page is a simple solution to this problem. If you want Google to index your page as quickly as possible, though, you should do so from one of your more "strong" pages.

3. Use original, unique, and valuable content.

Google is most likely to ignore your pages if it doesn’t provide unique and valuable content. You may spend a week solving technical loopholes, but if your page lacks value, Google will never waste energy crawling on it.

4. Build high-quality backlinks.
